How to Set Up the Dialer
- Pro and Platform accounts have the dialer included in their subscription. If you are on the Grow plan, the owner can enable calling by going to Admin > Billing > Try Calling.
- Go to your Initials/Image in the upper right-hand corner > My Settings
- Under My Number, view your Personal Number. This number can be changed if needed.
- Choose how to handle Incoming Calls
- Ring desktop then forward to mobile number
- Ring mobile number and the desktop at the same time
- Ring desktop then forward to FUB voicemail
- Choose how to handle Outgoing Calls
- Outbound Number: Select a FUB number (personal or inbox) for outbound calling.
- This is useful if you want to work together with your team on calls back and text replies or if you are using different area codes with your numbers.
- Calling Method: Choose the outbound calling method that works best for your workflow. Check out Calling Method Overview for more information about this setting.

Your Phone Number
Can I keep my phone number if I leave Follow Up Boss?
If you are the Follow Up Boss account owner, you can request to port your number away from Follow Up Boss and into another system should you decide to leave.
Can I choose a local number?
You can search for local numbers and we will display what is available. You may not find numbers in certain popular area codes, but numbers are released and changed all of the time so you can try searching again and refreshing.
Can I change my number?
You can change the number you use in Follow Up Boss at any time. Once the number is changed, the old number will be released and the new number will be used to make and receive calls. It's a good idea to add the released number to a team inbox in case any clients try to call you on the old number.
Can you just use my cell phone number for my Follow Up Boss number?
Your cell phone number belongs to you and your carrier, so your dialer number needs to be different. Using your Follow Up Boss number allows you to have a dedicated business line to keep all of your business opportunities in one place.
Should I share my Follow Up Boss number with people?
Yes! You want to share this number with all prospects and business contacts. Put it in your email signature, on your business card, on your signs!
Can I change or swap phone numbers?
Yes! You can reassign any number to another user, team inbox, or company number from the Phone Numbers page. Find the number you would like to reassign, click on the Actions dropdown and choose Swap Number or Change Number.
What happens if I change, swap, or release a phone number and want it back?
The old number will then be released and appear on this page for 30 days before being permanently deleted. You can choose to swap, move or reassign those released numbers if you made a mistake. For example, you might want to add one of those released numbers to a team inbox in case clients have that number.
Can I port a number to Follow Up Boss?

What does it look like when I receive an inbound call?
If the caller is a contact in your Follow Up Boss account, you will see the name of the contact + Follow Up Boss. If the person calling is not a contact in Follow Up Boss, you will see their phone number.
If I am calling through a list, what happens when I receive an inbound call?
If an inbound call comes in while you're on another call, it will go to voicemail.
How does voicemail transcription work?
Follow Up Boss automatically transcribes voicemails left on your FUB dialer number. Transcriptions will appear in the contact's timeline beneath the recorded voicemail. Only agents who have access to the lead or admins will be able to read those transcriptions.
Will my calls be recorded?
Yes! But only if call recording is enabled in the account (this is determined by the account owner).
If I miss a call, how am I notified?
If you miss a call, the missed call will show up in your inbox. If you are directing calls to your Follow Up Boss voicemail, voicemails will also be in your inbox should someone leave a message. If you have calls forwarding to your cell phone, voicemails would be in your's phone's voicemail inbox. Tip: send your calls to Follow Up Boss voicemail to stay organized.
Can I transfer calls?
Yes! Transferring a call in Follow Up Boss is easy. During a call, simply click the transfer icon in your browser. You can then search for and select a team member or team inbox to transfer the call. This will initiate a warm transfer. A warm transfer will place the lead on hold while the new team member is dialed. This allows you to explain the nature of the call to the team member in private and then either merge or complete the call. Merging the call will place the lead off hold and you will be able to introduce the new team member to the lead and then stay on the call or hang up. Completing the transfer will connect the new team member with the lead and end the call for you.
Can I make a 3-way call?
Yes! On the desktop, you can use the Transfer button. That lets you have a private conversation with the original caller on hold, then merge to a 3-way call, and then actually hang up and let the other person and the caller keep talking, if needed. On your mobile, place your initial call through the Follow Up Boss app and then add another caller as you normally would.
Are calls recorded on mobile?
Yes, if they go through the Follow Up Boss number and recording is turned on (for both iPhone and Android).
Can I use any browser for calling?
For the best call quality, we recommend using Google Chrome.
Do my Follow Up Boss texts also come from this number?
Yes! This is your dedicated calling and texting number. You use both through the Follow Up Boss app (the same idea as using WhatsApp except the other party doesn't need Follow Up Boss).
What if I text from my cell phone?
As long as you text from the Follow Up Boss app, your texts will come from your Follow Up Boss number and we will track those to keep you organized. If you text from your cell phone number, you won't have a history of that in Follow Up Boss.
My calls are being reported as SPAM. What can I do?
One immediate thing we would suggest doing is asking your contacts when you connect with them to add your number to their contact list as that will help protect your number's reputation score with carriers ongoing. We are actively working with our provider and carriers (ATT&T, Verizon, & T-Mobile) on a pilot program to get company phone numbers like yours properly registered as a verified caller and off of those "Spam Likely" lists.

How can I try calling for free?
You must be the owner of the account to do this. Click Admin > Billing > Try Calling Add-On. For more information, check out How can I try calling for free?
Can I trial calling anytime?
You can try calling until the end of your Follow Up Boss free trial, or for 14 days every 6 months if you are a paid subscriber. If you are already paying for the calling add-on you cannot try calling for free. Only 20 users may receive calling as part of the trial.
How will I get billed for calling at the end of the trial?
If you already have a Follow Up Boss subscription and you try calling, we'll start billing you as soon as your trial ends for any user that still has the calling add-on turned on. You can see what day your trial ends on the right side of the Phone Numbers page. At the end of your trial period, you will be billed for any users who have the calling add-on activated. If you do not wish to keep the calling add-on for any user, simply press the 'Cancel trial' link and confirm you would like to cancel. Your users will lose access to the calling add-on and its features. You can do this any time before the end of your trial period to avoid being billed. If you do not have a Follow Up Boss subscription, you'll be asked if you want to continue paying for the calling add-on when you upgrade.
