Use this article to connect Inked to Follow Up Boss and send handwritten cards to your prospects and contacts at scale. Once installed, Inked appears as an embedded widget on the People record, allowing you to authenticate and send contact details directly into the app.
This integration interacts with contact fields such as names, relationships, and addresses, and adds two custom fields to support flexible greetings and envelope addressing.
How it works
After installation:
- Inked appears as a widget (iframe) on the People record.
- The widget authenticates the user.
- Contact details are securely passed into the Inked application.
The integration reads standard contact fields such as:
- First name and last name.
- Relationship information.
- Mailing address.
It also creates two additional custom fields in Follow Up Boss:
- Combined First Names.
- Addressee.
These fields provide flexibility when sending cards to individuals or households.
Before you begin
- You must be the Follow Up Boss account owner to complete the API integration setup.
- You must have access to the Inked embedded application.
Connect Inked to Follow Up Boss
- Open any People record in Follow Up Boss.
- In the Inked iframe located in the sidebar, click Connect.
- Log in to Follow Up Boss through the Inked iframe when prompted.
- Review and agree to the consent message from Follow Up Boss.
Once authorized, the integration will create the required custom fields and enable card sending from the People record.
Using the custom fields
When the account owner authorizes the integration, two custom fields are automatically added:
- Combined First Names.
- Addressee.
Combined First Names
Use this field when sending a card to more than one person in a household.
For example, if the Combined First Names field contains “Bonnie and Clyde,” you can personalize your greeting using:
Hi @contact.combined_name
This would render as:
Hi Bonnie and Clyde.
Addressee
The Addressee field controls how the envelope is addressed.
- If no addressee is entered, Inked defaults to the contact’s first name and last name (for example, John Smith).
- If an Addressee value is present, that name will appear on the envelope instead.
This allows you to address the envelope with multiple names, such as:
Jack Smith and Jane Doe.
Troubleshooting
The custom fields are not visible.
- Confirm that the Follow Up Boss account owner completed the authorization process.
- The Combined First Names and Addressee fields are created only after the owner approves the integration.
Cards are addressed incorrectly.
- Review the Combined First Names field for greeting personalization.
- Review the Addressee field to confirm how the envelope should appear.
- If the Addressee field is blank, the system defaults to the contact’s first and last name.
