What is spoofing?
Spoofing is when a caller displays a false number on the caller ID. Scammers often spoof their numbers to display numbers people trust. Defined by the FCC.
How can I stop my number from being spoofed?
As the calls or text messages are not actually sent from your Follow Up Boss number, we do not have control over your number being spoofed. Fortunately, according to the FCC, "Usually, scammers switch numbers frequently. It is likely that within hours they will no longer be using your number."
If the issue persists, your Follow Up Boss number can be changed.
Is my Follow Up Boss account secure?
Yes! The security of your Follow Up Boss account is in no way compromised if your number is spoofed. These situations can happen to anyone with a phone number and are not directly related to Follow Up Boss. To learn more about our security, check out our Security FAQ.
Other Types of Scams
We often get reports of scammers texting agents pretending to be another member of the team. These texts come from a random number that is not associated with your Follow Up Boss account. The scammers will typically ask team members to buy gift cards for them or send them money. These scammers can find your numbers and information on your website. We see this mostly with Ylopo customers but it can happen to anyone who has their Follow Up Boss number displayed publicly. The best thing to do is to block the person's number and educate your team by letting them know that you will never ask them to send you money or buy you gift cards.
